about us

Based in Dannevirke, Pure Heart Aotearoa is a company established by Ngāti Kahungunu ki Tāmaki nui-a-Rua, located in the Tararua district.

We are one of six rohe (regions) belonging to  Ngāti Kahungunu. Ngāti Kahungunu is the second largest tribe in New Zealand based on land-area and the third largest tribe based on members.

Ngāti Kahungunu translates to 'people of Kahungunu'. Kahungunu is our chief, who was well known for growing crops, uplifting his people and created prosperity by ensuring the availability of food for his community.

Inspired by this, chairman Hayden Hape has dedicated his time to the development of our hemp food business.

Creating jobs, caring for our environment and providing healthy foods for the whānau (family) is our vision.

This venture will improve the economic prosperity of the Tararua district which, has experienced significant job loss over the last thirty years.
